She and her friends try to live a fun, healthy lifestyle. What do Kelly and her friends do to stay healthy?
Kelly says, “I like to take care of myself outside and inside. The two are definitely connected. I feel better and more relaxed when I have taken a shower and am clean. That’s one way I can feel better both in and out. I also like to get lots of exercise. I love soccer! So I play whenever I can. It makes me feel great because all I have to think about when I play soccer is playing soccer! I don’t have to worry about school, or homework, or anything else that is bothering me. They just totally melt away. Plus it is a great way to spend time with my friends. That’s another way I stay healthy, is hanging out with my friends. We make each other feel good about ourselves, and we hardly ever argue. When we do, sometimes it just means we need a little time apart. It’s just like with my mom. We may fight, but it never means I don’t love her. That’s how it is with my friends, too. I also try to eat right. Most of the time at least! And really, even though I don’t like the taste of broccoli so much, I feel better and healthier after I eat a lot of different kinds of food, even if some of the food is green! So sometimes I have to force it down, like I tell myself if I eat that asparagus, then I can reward myself with those french fries that I love. I know my friends do other things to stay healthy, but the important thing is that we do SOMETHING to be healthy. Like my friend who plays softball and the piano, and likes baths instead of showers, we are both healthy in our own way. On the inside and the outside.” |
